AIDS Walk Los Angeles is seeking motivated, enthusiastic individuals to be a part of our production team for the 27th annual AIDS Walk Los Angeles on Sunday, October 16. As the world's first AIDS Walk, AIDS Walk Los Angeles has a variety of unique internship opportunities that will provide outstanding professional fundraising and community organizing experience in an energetic atmosphere. We currently have 6 internship opportunities available.

Interns will be asked to take leadership roles in all facets of their duties, and will be encouraged to add their own voice and talents to the event.

Qualifications and Experience:

Internship candidates must possess strong phone skills, be self-motivated with a positive attitude, well-organized, and a team player. Computer knowledge is required, including but not limited to: Internet research, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.

Internship Specifications:

AIDS Walk Los Angeles requires a minimum commitment of 20 hours a week, some time between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The only exception is the Volunteer Intern who has the flexibility to work an evening shift between 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. as well during our evening volunteer nights. Internship schedules are variable, and each intern will work with their department Supervisor to build a schedule that works with their classes and also meets the needs of the department. All AIDS Walk internships come with a monthly stipend, and may be eligible for college credit.

Available Positions and start dates:

Event Operations Department

Volunteer Intern - August 1 to November 15, 2011
Each year, more than 5,000 volunteers log more than 33,000 volunteer hours at AIDS Walk Los Angeles. The Volunteer Intern will help recruit, organize, and motivate the AIDS Walk volunteers for a variety of projects including: events, mailings, phone-banking, canvassing, and other special projects. S/He will help build and maintain relationships with a diverse population of volunteers from various backgrounds. The Volunteer Intern must be friendly, articulate, and outgoing. If you are a 'people-person', then this internship is for you!

Event Operations Intern - August 1 to November 15, 2011
The Event Operations Department is responsible for event logistics and community organizing. This department also handles all of the city permitting, vendors, and master plan of operations for the event. Additionally, the department organizes the annual Kick-Off Reception which caters to 350 guests and manages 20 outreach representatives who distribute promotional materials citywide. The Event Operations Intern will assist in securing in-kind donations, coordinating entertainment along the route, and planning the Kick-Off Reception. This internship is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, charismatic, and has an interest in event planning.

Teams and Targeted Fundraising Department

Teams Department Interns - July 15 to November 15, 2011
Over 1,800 corporations and community organizations form teams for AIDS Walk Los Angeles, and each year those teams attract more than 75% of the participants. These two interns will help the Teams Department to implement their massive recruitment, fundraising effort, and be a part of the production and venue set-up on the day of the event! They will help to empower Team Leaders from many industries including but not limited to Fashion, Arts & Theatre, Retail, Finance, Government, Travel, and Law. Interns will help these Team Leaders with the necessary tools to build successful teams through phone calls, e-mails, assisting with workshops, and occasional off-site visits. If you want experience in presentation skills, participant engagement, and outreach strategy, this is the internship for you!

Star Walker Intern - July 15 to November 15, 2011
Star Walkers are AIDS Walk Los Angeles participants who pledge to raise $1,000 or more. The Star Walker Intern will work with our Star Walker Coordinator to cultivate and energize this important group of fundraisers which also includes the top 100 fundraising walkers from 2010. The Star Walker Intern will work on projects including securing product donations, managing the Star Walker database and our massive recruitment effort which includes e-communication and overseeing the in-house recruitment phone-banking. This internship will also contribute to the planning of the exclusive Star Walker breakfast on the morning of the event. If you are looking for a truly unique experience working with the event's most inspiring supporters and fundraisers, then this internship is for you!

Promotions Department

Media and Promotions Intern - August 1 to November 15, 2011
The Event Management department designs and produces all material for the AIDS Walk's extensive marketing campaign, which includes, print, radio, TV, internet, and transit ads, as well as all participant communications, promotions, website design, and the AIDS Walk Program Guide. The Media and Promotions Intern will work closely with the Event Management Department to help secure new donations of advertising space, create and track the production and dissemination of all types of event media, and help attract new and better press coverage of the event. If you're media savvy and in the know, then this is the internship for you!

Sponsorship Department

Sponsorship Department Intern - August 1 to November 15, 2011
Sponsorship and Major Gifts are vital sources of income for the AIDS Walk, generating 16% of the three MZA AIDS Walk's gross revenue (AIDS Walk New York, AIDS Walk Los Angeles, AIDS Walk San Francisco). In 2010 alone, the Sponsorship Department worked with national and local businesses to raise $1.9 million for MZA's AIDS Walk campaigns. The Sponsorship Department Intern is responsible for assisting the Sponsorship Director and Supervisor in their management of three simultaneous sponsorship campaigns. Responsibilities include researching sponsor prospects, managing and updating the sponsorship database, organizing special projects and mailings, among many other roles within the department. If you are interested in learning how events garner larger contributions through corporate philanthropy and marketing, this is the internship for you!
