Subject: Why I walk
Dear Friend,
I volunteered for a hospice program when I lived in St. Louis. When I was 16, I was assigned to an 8-year-old boy living with AIDS. His father had recently passed away, his mother was also living with AIDS, and his sister was the only family member who was HIV negative. They were your “average Midwestern family,” struggling to get by, who not only had to face all the problems a family faces, but also had to deal with the stigma and reality of being a suburban family living with the AIDS virus. I am walking in the AIDS Walk in honor of this family.
The federal government is cutting off monetary support for domestic HIV/AIDS programs. The advancement of the medications have kept people infected alive longer, but how do they live with the virus? Many spend near 75% of their entire income on the medications. How do they buy groceries? Pay for the necessary services needed? AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA), the benefactor of AIDS Walk Los Angeles, provides these services, and many more. Please sponsor me to help APLA provide these vital life-sustaining services.
Please support me by contributing $25, $50, $100, or whatever you can online. You can also send your donation to AIDS Walk Los Angeles, P.O. Box 933005, Los Angeles, CA 90093-3005. Be sure to include my name on the check and let me know by e-mail if you were able to send in a donation – so I can thank you!
Thank you so much, in advance, for your support!
