We need more than 2,500 volunteers on Sunday, May 18 to ensure a safe and fun day for all at AIDS Walk New York! We have opportunities for everyone, including groups: you can greet participants, total donations, cheer on walkers, and so much more. Please see our Day-of-Event volunteer opportunities below and then let us know how you would like to help!

WANT TO START VOLUNTEERING RIGHT AWAY? NO NEED TO WAIT UNTIL MAY! CHECK OUT EVENING VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES AT THE AIDS WALK OFFICE (BEGINNING IN FEBRUARY 2014).

 “COCKTAIL HOUR”
Mondays and Wednesdays: 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

If you’re available to volunteer in the evenings, join us for “Cocktail Hour,” a fabulous alternative to Happy Hour! Help us reach more than 30,000 AIDS Walk New York participants by assembling Walker Kits and Team Materials, and assisting with special projects in preparation for AIDS Walk New York. Dinner will be served, but sorry – no cocktails!  J

SIGN-IN
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 6:45 a.m. 12:45 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Wednesday, May 14 from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.at GMHC, OR Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. LOCATION TBD.

Be the first face participants see at AIDS Walk New York! Sign-In Volunteers welcome walkers and collect funds. You must be friendly, outgoing, and detail-oriented, and have a valid photo ID. Sign-In Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Click here to register as a Sign-In Volunteer!

MONITORS
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 6:45 a.m. 2:30 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. LOCATION TBD.

Monitor Volunteers get a front-row seat to the Walk, so they're also able to cheer on walkers and see all participants as they go by! Monitors direct the flow of walker traffic, and maintain walker safety at key intersections along the route. They must be outgoing, energetic, and strong communicators. CHECKPOINTS (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Saturday, May 17 from 12 p.m. – 1 p.m. Meet in Central Park near the Naumberg Bandshell, northeast of Sheep Meadow.

Checkpoint Volunteers distribute snacks and beverages along the route, as well as direct walkers to services such as restrooms and first aid. They ensure that all checkpoints are properly set up, managed, and then cleaned up after the Walk. All ages are welcome! This volunteer position is great for families and groups. 

CHECKPOINT 4 (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
No Orientation

Checkpoint 4 is stationed at the AIDS Walk start line and finish line. Volunteers here will set-up and manage the checkpoint as they distribute snacks and beverages to walkers before they embark, and upon their return! Additional responsibilities include directing walkers to services such as restrooms and first aid. After the Walk, volunteers will stay on board to clean up. All ages are welcome! This volunteer position is great for families and groups. Checkpoint 4 Volunteers do not have an orientation. 

CROWD CONTROL
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 7 a.m. 3:30 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Saturday, May 17 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Meet in Central Park near the Naumberg Bandshell, northeast of Sheep Meadow.

Welcome walkers as they enter Central Park and be part of the excitement at the start line and finish line! Energetic and outgoing personalities are a must! Crowd Control Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Click here to register as a Crowd Control Volunteer!

DELINEATORS (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
No Orientation

Help us assemble and “delineate” the AIDS Walk New York route before the Walk and break down the route after the Walk. Delineator Volunteers must be comfortable with physical activity and lifting. Be prepared to get a little dirty! Delineator Volunteers do not have an orientation.

VENUE GREEN TEAM

Green is the new black! Help us make AIDS Walk New York the most eco-friendly event it can be while also preserving the beauty of Central Park. The Green Team will help direct walkers to recycling locations in Central Park, sort recyclables, and ensure that no recyclables make it into a landfill. ROUTE GREEN TEAM
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 8 a.m. 2:30 p.m.

The specialized AIDS Walk Route Green Team will help direct walkers to Green Zones along the AIDS Walk route, sort recyclables at Checkpoints, and ensure that no recyclables make it into a landfill. Help us become as clean and green as possible! Click here to register for the Route Green Team!

HOOPLAH/STRIKE CREW (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
No Orientation

Be the first to welcome back the walkers! Help us celebrate at the finish line by handing out seals of completion and cheering as the walkers return from the route. Then stick around to help us make sure Central Park is spotlessly beautiful. Hooplah Volunteers do not have an orientation.

INFORMATION ARMY (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 7 a.m. 1:30 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Saturday, May 17 from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Meet in Central Park near the Naumberg Bandshell, northeast of Sheep Meadow.

Help direct 30,000 participants through Central Park! Walkers have all sorts of questions as they take their first steps into Central Park on the morning of AIDS Walk New York. That’s why we need you to help them out!  As a member of this elite group of volunteers, you will welcome walkers, help them turn in funds, find their Team Meeting Stations, and direct them to a variety of areas in Central Park. As the AIDS Walk expert our walkers seek out at the event, you must be friendly and outgoing! After the Walk begins, you will help set up our finish line and welcome walkers back upon their return. 

SECURITY
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 7:45 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Mandatory Orientation: Saturday, May 17 from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Meet in Central Park near the Naumberg Bandshell, northeast of Sheep Meadow.

Help with Crowd Control and security during the AIDS Walk New York Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Security Volunteers must possess excellent leadership and communication skills. Click here to register as a Security Volunteer!

TEAMS

Assist us in setting up our Teams Area! A team is any group of two or more walkers registered under the same Team Name. Teams Volunteers help us welcome these dedicated AIDS Walk participants as they join us in Central Park. Teams Volunteers must be comfortable with physical activity and lifting. TOTALING TENT
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Help us as we process donations and total funds submitted by participants on the day of AIDS Walk New York. Totaling Tent Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have some experience with a 10-key calculator. Totaling Tent Volunteers do not have an orientation. PHOTOGRAPHY (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Sunday, May 18 from 8 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.

AIDS Walk New York is currently looking for shutterbugs to help capture the moments that make the AIDS Walk so special!  Photography Volunteers are asked to have professional training and experience with photography and be able to supply their own equipment on the day of the event.  This volunteer position is great for individuals or groups who are currently studying photography or want to use their photographic talents at the AIDS Walk!

SATURDAY SET-UP (CLOSED)
AIDS Walk Shift: Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
No Orientation

We need a lot of help on Saturday, May 17 preparing for the big event! Come help us set up the Teams Area, assemble the Sign-In Area, and assist with the placement of posters. This volunteer position is great for those who prefer to walk on Sunday, May 18.

STRIKE CREW

We encourage everyone who participates in AIDS Walk New York to raise funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS. Therefore, we credit all of our volunteers with walking the 10 kilometers. To assist you with your fundraising efforts, we will create a personal fundraising web page just for you when you register as an AIDS Walk Volunteer.

You can utilize your personal web page to send fundraising emails to friends and family, track your donations, and get AIDS Walk Volunteer information. Fundraising is certainly not a requirement, but we encourage you to give it a try – if you have questions about online fundraising or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us at 212.807.9255 (WALK).
