VOLUNTEER

Thank you so much for your interest in helping us our with this year's event!  We need over 1,500 volunteers on Sunday, July 20 to ensure a safe and fun day for all. We have opportunities for everyone, even groups: you can greet participants, total donations, cheer on walkers and so much more!  Simply stated, AIDS Walk San Francisco could not happen without the time and effort of our dedicated volunteers.

Check out the activities that are starting at the AIDS Walk office in April:

DAYTIME ACTIVITIES
Monday – Friday: 10:00am - 5:00pm
Come hang out with AIDS Walk San Francisco staff during the day!  There are always projects with which we need assistance.  Help us with general office duties and mailings for more than 25,000 AIDS Walk San Francisco participants.

PHONEBANK
Monday – Thursday: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Exercise your phone skills!  The AIDS Walk San Francisco Phonebank is an essential element in recruiting AIDS Walk walkers.  Join us as we call our past participants and encourage them to register, fundraise, and volunteer with us in 2008.

EVENING ACTIVITIES
Monday – Thursday: 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Perhaps you are unavailable during daytime hours but would like to volunteer in the evenings?  Come on over!  Help us with mailings for more than 25,000 AIDS Walk New York participants, assemble Walker Kits and Team Materials, and assist with special projects in preparation for AIDS Walk San Francisco 2008.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO VOLUNTEER ON THE DAY OF THE AIDS WALK?
All activities take place on Sunday, July 20.  Times vary according to position.

SIGN-IN
7:15 a.m. - Noon
Be the first face participants see the morning of AIDS Walk San Francisco! Sign-In Volunteers check in Walkers and collect the funds they have raised. You must be friendly, outgoing and detail-oriented and have a valid photo ID. Sign-In Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and fluent in English. Mandatory orientation times and locations TBD.

MONITORS
7 a.m. - 2:30p.m.

Help keep our Walkers safe! Monitors guide Walkers safely along our Route - cheering them on as they walk. Monitors must be alert and energetic! This volunteer position is great for groups! You must be at least 16 years old or accompanied by an adult.  Mandatory orientation on Saturday, July 19, from 1p.m. to 3p.m. Location TBD.

CROWD CONTROL
7:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m

Welcome Walkers as they enter Golden Gate Park and be part of the excitement at the start and finish line of AIDS Walk San Francisco! Direct walkers on the venue and guard restricted areas.  Energetic and outgoing personalities are a must! Crowd Control Volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Mandatory orientation on Saturday, July 19, from 1p.m. to 2p.m. at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

CHECKPOINTS
8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Our Checkpoint Volunteers help set up, manage and clean up our Walker Checkpoints along the Route. Distribute snacks and beverages to our dedicated Walkers! Help direct Walkers to services such as restrooms and first aid. All ages are welcome! This volunteer position is great for families and groups.  Mandatory orientation on Saturday, July 19, from 12p.m. to 1p.m. at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park

DELINEATORS
7:00a.m. - 2:15 p.m.

Help us assemble and "delineate" the AIDS Walk San Francisco Route before the Walk starts and break down the Route once Walkers have completed AIDS Walk San Francisco. Delineator Volunteers must be comfortable with physical activity and lifting. Be prepared to get a little dirty! Delineator Volunteers do not have an orientation.

TEAMS
7 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Assist us in setting up our Teams Area! A Team is any group of 2 or more Walkers - co-workers, students, religious/civic organization members, friends and/or family members - that raise money and walk together at AIDS Walk San Francisco. Teams Volunteers help us welcome these dedicated AIDS Walk participants as they join us in Golden Gate Park. Teams Volunteers must be comfortable with physical activity and lifting.  Mandatory orientation on Saturday, July 19, from 1p.m. to 2p.m. at Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park.

SECURITY
7:45a.m. - 2:00p.m.
Help with Crowd Control and security during the AIDS Walk San Francisco Opening and Closing Ceremonies. Security Volunteers must possess excellent leadership and communication skills. Security Volunteers must attend a mandatory orientation on Saturday, May 19 from 2p.m. to 3p.m.

TOTALERS
10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Help us as we process donations and total the funds turned in by our participants on the day of AIDS Walk San Francisco. Totaling Tent Volunteers must have some experience with a 10-key calculator. Totaling Volunteers do not have an orientation.

KID ZONE
10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m

Help set-up and clean-up our KidZone.  Volunteers must be at least 18 years old. KidZone Volunteers do not have an orientation.

SET-UP CREW
5:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

Do you want to walk and volunteer at AIDS Walk San Francisco? Join our Set-Up Volunteer Team! Help us set up Golden Gate Park the morning of the AIDS Walk.  This volunteer position great for groups who also want to walk!  Set-Up Volunteers do not have an orientation. 

CLEAN-UP CREW
2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
Do you want to walk and volunteer at AIDS Walk San Francisco? Join our  Clean Up Volunteers! Help us to clean up and break down Golden Gate Park after you cross the finish line. This volunteer position is great for groups! Clean Up Volunteers do not have an orientation.

STILL LOOKING FOR MORE WAYS TO GET INVOLVED? 

PRIDE CELEBRATION, JUNE 29, 2008
Take it to the streets!  Come march in our parade contingent and help spread the world about AIDS Walk San Francisco.  Use your outgoing personality to recruit and register AIDS Walk San Francisco participants at the San Francisco LGBT Pride Festival.  This is a great way to meet new people while energizing San Franciscans about this year’s AIDS Walk.
 
SATURDAY SET-UP,  JULY 19, 2008
Join our efforts and help us prepare for AIDS Walk San Francisco 2008.  Play an instrumental part in the excitement and success of this year’s Walk by setting up in Golden Gate Park the Saturday before the event.
